If it had not been for the challenge FadedLight faced since DappleSplash had left for RiverClan, OnyxStar would have had no personal feelings towards her. Her abandonment of ShadowClan did not affect him personally at all - if she wanted to have wet fur all day long, she could. His clan was still strong, it was still prosperous and one less warrior was no big deal. But, it affected FadedLight, and his deputy was his friend. So he did hold a sense of resentment for the she-cat, a bit of ill-will towards her. Needless to say, if she fell into the gorge, he wouldn't blink an eye. Not that he would ever let FadedLight know the darkness of his thoughts. As such he remained unimpressed and showed no disregard for her current absence from the Gathering.
It was however, with little hint of mirth, that he caught FadedLight's glance at him. His ears twitched in her direction, a slight curiosity pricking at him. Had he gone too far interjecting himself? But she did not look put off, rather a bit relieved if not glad. He had not meant to usurp the conversation, rather had meant to turn it on RobinFlight before she got to FadedLight - but the other deputy was quick to turn the topic of conversation away anyway and it was over.
He had to admit, to himself, that RobinFlight was quick in thought and tongue. OnyxStar appreciated that, and appreciated even more the direction she opted to take. Speaking of the history they knew and the blood between their clans. OnyxStar made it his personal duty to know as much as he could, whenever he could. Gossip though usually frivolous could serve the purpose of expanding one's knowledge. But it was her next statement that made him pause. Had the RiverClan deputy suggested an alliance between their two clans?
How intriguing...The ShadowClan leader took a moment to consider this. Any alliance would always serve well, especially in the time of leaf-bare, but he was proud and thought highly of his clan. Especially now. They were prospering, they were surviving, they were living. Everything was going well for them, they needed no such alliances, but one never could know what the future would hold.
"Indeed," he finally said in a controlled tone,
"It would do your clan well to ally itself with ShadowClan wouldn't it?" She was not yet leader and still the she-cat implied an alliance - with ShadowClan of all the clans. ThunderClan were easy and soft-hearted and WindClan easily cowered (in his opinion), but she spoke to him, to ShadowClan... He had to respect RobinFlight's audacity to suggest such a thing. He twitched his ears,
"Do not fret, dear RobinFlight. We shall mull it over." And with that he stood up.
The clearing had filled some more cats during their conversation. He could smell ThunderClan but the scent was not very strong, so just a few. The WindClan scent however, was much more potent and swiveling his head he saw why. Sat not too far away was SwoopingStar, the newly named and frankly very young WindClan leader. OnyxStar 'hmmed' softly.
"If you will excuse me, I would like to get a word in with SwoopingStar before we begin the Gathering." And with a polite bow of his head to the two female deputies he made his way over to the silver and white cat and sat himself near him.
"SwoopingStar," was all he said in greeting.
